THE CHARACTER

Character Name: Tim Drake.
Series: DC Comics (Pre-52).
Canon Point: As of Red Robin #26.
Character Age: 19.
Background: Here.

Personality: To those who've only just met Tim Drake, every aspect of his identity seems to be weaponized in service of the greater good. With his keen analytical mind tailored towards computer science and detective work, his honed physique being proof of his discipline and martial prowess, and his prodigious resume built after years as one of Batman's most stalwart disciples, Tim Drake seems to make being a hero look easy. It's why other superheroes his age look to him for leadership, and why supervillains like the dreaded Ra's Al Ghul have come to respect Tim for his cunning and guile. To be completely truthful, though, being Tim Drake - being Red Robin - is far from easy. Tim had to earn his place in Batman's shadow back when he was Robin, and part of what drives him to this day is a constant imperative to earn his keep - to prove himself.

Tim, after all, did not become Robin overnight. His vast skill set is not a product of any natural gifts, but of hard work. Tim becoming the detective and the vigilante he's known for being - the reputed crime-solver of the Batfamily - was no easy feat, as even his natural aptitude for detective work demanded continuous refinement. Ultimately, then, if Tim is nothing else, he's resilient. For the sake of his convictions and what he believes to be just and true, Tim is willing to undergo great suffering to achieve his goals. Whether this goal is to become the Robin that Batman needs or to prove to the world that Bruce Wayne is alive (after his apparent death following the events of Final Crisis), Tim is willing to make sacrifices at his own expense if he believes his cause is just.

So yes, Tim's proven himself to be a brilliant thinker, a brilliant detective, and a brilliant strategist - but at minimum, anyone who is or has ever been Robin has to be brilliant at these things. Tim distinguishes himself as a forward-thinking planner, who, under the right circumstances, acts and makes decisions with great deliberation. He never acts without thinking twelve steps ahead of his opponents, and he not only takes his strengths into account, but his shortcomings. Despite his unmatched proficiency with the bo staff, Tim is not the greatest martial artist. However, he remains a force to be reckoned with precisely because of what he lacks - he compensates by being more pragmatic, more resourceful, more cunning than his enemies, especially when they outclass him in strength and/or skill. Though these all sound like basic requirements for any disciple of Batman, Tim is a constant student of vigilantism. His experience is thoroughly cerebral, as he is ceaselessly thinking through his methods, seeing how he can improve himself as a crimefighter and expand his reach.

In his personal life, Tim is undoubtedly a "nerd" insofar as he enjoys geeky things and demonstrates a knack for computers and technology. He's even a "dork" in the sense that he occasionally stumbles over his own words, gets flustered around somebody he admires, or gets carried away with something he's enthusiastic about or interested in. But to say that any of this would make Tim a wimp or a pushover would be misleading. When under pressure, Tim hardly hesitates to put his foot down. Though he has a habit of second-guessing himself, of juxtaposing his actions and decisions with that of Bruce's and Dick's, Tim still has the confidence to carry on - again, he recognizes his limitations, but he is fully aware of his strengths as well. In mundane social environments, Tim does tend to keep to himself, but he's still friendly and approachable when he wants to be. Others might have to expend more effort to get to know him than the other way around, though.

At his lowest moments, Tim can also be aggressive, spiteful, and condescending. He tends to internalize and repress negative emotions, and looks to his vigilante activities as his primary outlet for them. As such, Tim has a habit of deflecting his own emotions, especially when he's hurting. He can become cold and calculating in ways that eerily mirror his mentor, to the point of making decisions on others' behalves (and perhaps to their detriment) if he believes he's doing them a favor. He can be insensitive and dismissive of others' emotions, failing to take them into account in his plans. Though Tim is definitely capable of being kind and considerate, his tumultuous lifestyle doesn't always bring out the best in him, so he isn't always the most tactful. When he's in mourning, he tends to bury himself in his work, and depending on how bad it is, will even go to great lengths to isolate himself. He might do so to protect those he cares about, or if he doesn't trust people enough to believe teamwork is warranted, or both.

Tim is by no means a perfect human being, despite the immense pressure he puts on himself to excel. But his willingness to invest himself in his work and give nearly everything he has for the greater good cements his heroism above all else. Tim lacks Dick's natural finesse and Bruce's unparalleled mastery of crimefighting, but he doesn't need either to do his job and do it well.

Powers/Abilities: Tim has no special powers, but he shows the following abilities.
  • Acrobatics
  • Martial Arts
  • Escapology
  • Genius-level Intellect
  • Investigation
  • Stealth

Power Nerfs (if applicable): N/A

Inventory:
  • The Red Robin suit
  • Collapsible bo staff
  • Utility belt
    • "Red Robin"-themed shurikens
    • Grapnel gun
    • Smoke capsules
    • Binoculars
    • Rebreather/gas mask
    • Handcuffs
    • Taser gun
    • Flashlight
    • First aid kit
    • Lockpicking kit
    • ...honestly, given the canon in question these are only to name a few so far
The inclusion of Tim's bo staff can be considered a special request for a weapon. If the contents of his utility belt offer too many advantages, Tim can simply arrive with only his costume, his bo staff, and an empty utility belt.

Incentives: Tim has lost enough people in his life that even after a significant number of them have returned from their apparent deaths, he wouldn't forgive himself if he were to lose them again. So he'd ask that the Orbiters guarantee the safety of his friends, whether they are connected to Tim through the Teen Titans or the Batfamily. He'd also ask for money and resources - like a private base of operations to himself - that will enable him to properly establish himself as Red Robin at El Nysa. He might take an active interest in peacekeeping, after all, though he'd prefer to do it his way.
